【July 2026 Shakuhachi Concert Information】

New World of Shakuhachi and Recorder no.3

A concert bringing together two ancient wind instruments: the Japanese shakuhachi and the Western recorder, in a dialogue between Eastern and Western musical traditions. This duo, formed by shakuhachi player Tajima Tadashi and recorder player Suzuki Tosiya, came together in 2011 through the Takefu International Music Festival and has since performed across Japan, Hungary, Italy, and Spain.

For this concert, Tajima Kenichi, a member of "The Shakuhachi 5", joins as a special guest. Rising composers Fu Tianyuan and Watanabe Mizuki contribute new works that push shakuhachi and recorder into uncharted territory. The program also includes the revised world premiere of Hosokawa Toshio's "Mana" for two shakuhachi, Kawakami Osamu's acclaimed "Antelope Envelope," Federico Gardella's recorder solo "Altopiani/Altri spazi," and the shakuhachi tune "Da-Ha."
